Best Wedding DJ
In February of 2020 I was awarded the “Best Wedding DJ” award at the Vancouver Island Wedding Industry Awards. I went to this awards gala with and industry friend just to take in the night and visit with “Friendors” (our term for wedding industry vendors we collaborate with a lot).
The night was amazing, the venue was decorated with no expense being spared, from the 10 foot balloons and laser and light shows with the live band and DJ all the way to the insanely talented caterers sampling their features for the 2020 season. I started the night helping my good buddy Greg owner of “Mr Booth Photo Experiences” (the other half of the wedding Dream Team along with myself) run his 360 degree photo booth as we made capturing all the guests for the gala our mission.
As the pre-event portion wrapped up we entered the awards area, popcorn in hand. The hosts, Kelsey and Jon cracking one liners and getting the crowd engaged in the show right from the start. As awards for photography, baking, and decor came and went I loved seeing many of my friends taking home awards…I actually forgot there was even awards for DJ’s. At this point I was just enjoying the night and looking forward to seeing which of my colleagues was going to win the DJ hardware.
Then it came. The hosts announced the next category…”Best Wedding DJ”, I had entered a theme wedding I did for an amazing couple from Vancouver who had wanted a WWE themed wedding which included an epic entrance with lasers and effects all the way to a 94 year old great grandma leading the dance floor to “Girls just wanna have fun”.
I figured, there are 20 plus DJs and this award is Island wide, let’s see which friend wins. I hear them call out my name as a finalist, look at Greg after hearing the other finalists and say “Ron has this one”……….they announce the winner, DJ PTK!!!! Sitting there still no idea that I just won listening to the claps and whistles was an amazing feeling.
I head to the stage to accept the award, a guy who MC’s and DJ’s for a living….total loss for words. What I do know is that our DJ community is a tight one, we are all there for each other to assist and more importantly, to drive and make each other more innovative through risks or techniques we may try. It is a fraternity I am proud to be a part of sure.
The award means a lot to me as I work on a simple formula: take my 20 plus years in customer service, add in my love for music and a great party then treat every event as if it were my own to ensure it leaves no corner cut.
I’ve done many many weddings along with multiple private and corporate events and school grads or dances, plus Christmas and Halloween events, and I make sure that at every one the clients got the best I could offer. I was constantly, and still am trying to find that next edge may it be new light shows or streamlining sound systems to be more aesthetically pleasing for certain room sizes.
I will continue to evolve and improve and strive for excellence so I can come back to the V.I.W.I.A. and have that feeling again. Being awarded the best at what you do for the entire Island just makes you work harder for your clients.
Thank you for the support!!! Now………. let’s dance!!!
